The annual report from the US Census Bureau has shown that almost a sixth of American were living in poverty last year, when the number of people rose to 46.2 million. The rate is up to 15.1% in 2010, with the previous year seeing 14.3% of the population living in poverty. 2010 also saw the number of Americans who do not have health insurance increase marginally to 49.9 million.
