Looks Like There Are More Jobs Than Expected

In a survey undertaken by the private sector it has been revealed that US businesses kept hiring a modest pace in July, reflecting that maybe the job market could be improving after three very slow months. On Wednesday spokes people from Payroll provider ADP said that businesses added 163,000 jobs last month.  The report only covers hiring in the private sector and does not include government job growth.  The Labour Department will offer a full picture of the US job market on Friday.

This survey has shown that there is some hope that hiring will pick up. But it is not uncommon for the reality of the figures to stray from government reports.  In June the labour department said that employer’s added just 80,000 jobs, this was less than half the figure that the ADP survey reported.  The government report is expected to show employers added 100,000 jobs in July, said a survey of economists by FactSet . The Unemployment rate is expected to stay at 8.2%.  However the hiring element of the figures is not so bright. Weekly applications for unemployment benefits, generally considered a reliable gauge, have been distorted by seasonal adjustment issues. The government has had trouble accounting for temporary summer shutdowns in the auto industry, which are used to retool plants for new models.
